     Inside the World War 2 Memorial there are 56 pillars, that are all connected with a bronze rope to symbolize national unity during the war, all along the inside the represent the 48 states (at that time), The District of Columbia, Territories of Alaska and Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, and The American Samoa. Also there are about 4,048 gold stars along the memorial walls representing all American deaths during WW2, where 1 gold star is equal to 100 American deaths making about 404,800 American deaths. This memorial was built to honor and remember the 16 million men and women that served in World War 2.
